Just wondering off unto the the random corridors she found, was a usual thing for Monica to do at this hour. It was not like her to follow rules, her one trait that made her slightly different from some of the alliance. Broom at her side, regular muggle ware, for in case she got dirty, she didn't want to explain why her robes were dirty. Alot of the other girls thought her different because she wasn't necessarily afraid of getting dirty or being hands on.

Suppose thats what made her good at nursing and taking care of people. She could be snappy at times, but usually it was because she hated being embarrassed at ant cost. But her down fall was her soft spot for people. Aside from the caring aspect, she was often a risk taker, or 'dare devil' if you will.

"allright... looks as if the coast is clear" She whispered to herself as she opened the heavy oak door leading to the high towers platform, quite perfect for lift off with a broom. Also considered slightly dangerous, but she figured 'How hard could it really be? flying a broom isn't that hard'

The fresh cool breeze hit her face like a bucket of cold water. She breathed in sharply and sighed in relief. The nights atmosphere calmed her most of the time. The stars, the moon, the clear sky.. so wide and shadowed. Then as she got used to breathing in the chilly air, she held her broom at waists height and waited for it to hover on its own.

"Good, good.." he said as she mounted it.

Lifting off with a slight jolt, she gripped tighter and almost made a squeek. The wind current, she could feel through her broom, it was strong. Not to mention it was sorta blowing her hair around.

"woah.. didn't think it would be this strong at this height"

Topher had come up to the top of the tower almost every night the past week. He had found it comforting up there, the air was more relaxed and the tension in everyone was much less tangible. Silently, he sat in a corner, holding his wand in his teeth and writing in the notebook that was poised on his knees. It was sure to be slightly awkward looking to anyone that did not know him all that well, but any of Chris's friends were surely used to his constant need to express himself in some way. Writing was probably the easiest way. The only problem was the fact that he only ever really wrote well at night. Hence why he could be found scrunched in that corner he was currently occupying. The silence of the night air was almost solid it was so definite-

Then, the sound of a door opening and a small whisper of alright... looks as if the coast is clear caused Topher to jump and spill his ink well. He hadn't been expecting anyone to intrude on his writing spot. Quickly he muttered "nox" to put out his wand and removed it from between his teeth in order to look more threatening if he had been discovered. Soon, though, he realized that his trespasser was not someone of whom he should be afraid, it was Monica Klein. He hadn't gotten along all that well with her lately, although he did find her to be an interesting girl to watch. He had caught himself a few times now staring at her across a room during a meeting of sorts. Slowly, he closed the notebook that had been perched in his lap and rose from his spot, still sheilded by the darkness of the corner.

He knew that he was somewhat intruding on something, but he couldn't help but stay in his current spot and just watch her. Suddenly, he noticed that she was carrying a broom. He shrugged to himself, knowing that Monica was a bit of a risk taker, kind of like himself. Maybe that was something that caused them to not get along all that much... He pondered this for a moment as he heard her murmur to herself again. At first, Topher had thought that she was being accompanied by someone because he had definitely heard her speak, but no, there was no one with her. Apparently this girl talked to herself a bit, he thought as he watched her lift off and heard "woah.. didn't think it would be this strong at this height".

Finally, watching her being blown around a bit in the cool night's wind, Topher stepped a bit out of his shadowed corner. It made him worry a bit about her recklessness, the fact that she hadn't checked in all the dark corners before doing anything else, but he knew that he would never bother with checking in all the dark corners either, so he did not dwell on the thought. Slowly, he stepped forward a bit more so that the moonlight was suddenly thrown upon his face. He was hoping not to startle her, because she didn't look like she was the most experienced on a broom and he didn't have one to go chasing after her if something happened.

"What are you doing?"

He asked, sounding slightly exhasperated. Not on purpose, that was just how a lot of the things that he said to her seemed to come out.

Upon finally gaining some control and balance, she smiled to herself. ha-ha. Looks like this current ain't so big and bad after all She thought to herself without saying a word. But after hearing another voice, and realizing it surely was not in her own head. She turned on her broom towards the direction of the sounds and hovered a little bit higher, yet closer to it.

Then once she was able to see the face in the moon light, she could see it was non other than christopher. Preferably Topher, most called him. "What are you doing" He said to her.

She couldn't help but quirk a brow. It wasn't that frightening, after all at hogwarts random voices out of no where made by somethingor another wasn't all that uncommon these days.

"Well... It looks to me as if I just may be flying." She said with her signature side grin and slight sarcasim. Often the tone that usually stirred up quite interesting reactions and conversations.

"Now the next question should be.. What are you doing?" she said tilting her head. Hating to even admit to herself most of the time, but the moon light made him quite attractive. Not that he wasn't always, but this light brought it out, well. She almost wanted to slap herself for thinking such things, but just smiled instead. Not wanting to show her insight thoughts.

Her quick, sarcastic reply of "Well... It looks to me as if I just may be flying" was somewhat of an annoyance to him, but he quickly brushed it off. Chris was generally pretty docile, and it took more than a sarcastic remark to anger him.

"I knew that... what I meant was why would you choose this hour to decide to fly a broomstick off the top of a tower?"

He attempted to catch her eyes with his own, trying to understand this girl was like trying to decipher a code that had no pattern or cipher to it. Topher shrugged and blinked, noting her grin that came with her words. It seemed to him that she amused herself with wit, although he wasn't quite as easily amused. He was still watching her broomstick intently, making sure that it didn't get caught in a strong gust of wind. Suddenly she turned his own question back at him, and he had not expected this, although he really should have. He looked down at his notebook, then at his pants, which had ink splattered all across the one leg from when he had accidentally dropped his ink. He indicated these to her before speaking.

"Isn't it obvious? I was writing."

He almost said it as if it were perfectly natural for a boy to go up to the roof and sit down in a dark corner to write in a notebook. If she had known him well enough, she would understand though. Topher shrugged and set the notebook down in his corner and then went closer to the spot that she was hovering. He still kept his eyes trained on her, noting her smile, wondering what she was smiling for. He really never did learn to understand girls all that much.

A small voice inside his head suddenly piped up she is quite an extraordinary girl. Definitely not a commonly found one around here... He attempted to force it away, though, not wanting to give in to those thoughts. No, it was a well known fact that the two of them had never really learned to get along all that well. He was not going to all of a sudden let something other than his brain do the thinking...

"Anyway, care to explain why it is that you are hovering here in the middle of the night?"

He tilted his head to one side, drinking her in as he asked his question.

She breathed in deeply and shighed slightly, Hopefully not audible. A small voice inside her kept telling 'Oh just stop pretending and be nice to him. It wouldn't hurt. She swolled slightly hard and looked down at his pants as he did. It took her a moment to see that he had black stuff all over him. Once hearing he was writing she couldn't help but become interested. I didn't know he liked to write...

"Well thats the thing about me, I have problems sleeping, thus making me more so a night person.." She said with a slight shrug, unsure how to explain. "I mean.. Um, well.. I don't know, I feel more confident to fly at night because no one isw watching or judging me."

She said with some truth. It was something about his eyes that just made her want to tell him anything he asked. She always felt a slight tension in her stomach when they spoke, usually causing her to try and push him away. Tonite she didn't feel like battling. It was such a beautiful night, and she didn't want to ruin it.

Finally she leaned back and forward slightly to bring her broom down to waist level, landed and dismounted her broom. Now she was perhaps 2-3 inches shorter than him and she had to look up a bit. In result to that motion, her face was exposed to full power of the moon light. NOt like how she was more shadowed while in the air.

"What bring you out this late?... Usual thing or just tonite?" She asked, hinting that she didn't feel like being sarcastic or annoying this time.

She started telling him about how she has trouble sleeping and flying at night makes her more confident because no one is watching... Topher couldn't help but think to himself, somewhat bemused, that he could never imagine Monica not having confidence in herself. He thought that she oozed confidence from every pore.

"Well, right now I'm watching you."

He said it very matter-of-factly, not meaning it to be rude or anything. He was just attemping to point out the fact that whether or not people are watching doesn't change your ability to fly or do anything else, for that matter. Clearly she wasn't too bad at flying, as she was now holding the broom steady in its spot.

Suddenly, she was bringing the broom down. This shocked him, because he was thinking that she might attempt a get-away on it at any minute. Topher was not used to just talking to Monica without arguing or one of them trying to get away from the other. This was to be interesting he knew. When she got off the broom, he seemed to slightly tower over her. He took note of how her slightly pale complextion seemed to be radient in the moonlight as she tilted her head up to him and spoke.

"Oh, well this past week it has been pretty normal. Pretty much every night I've been coming up here... It's the perfect atmosphere for writing and self-reflection. I don't always come up here, though."

He allowed a very slight blush to creep up on his cheeks. Self-reflection?! he thought to himself, she is sure to think that I'm gay just for that. He sighed at his own mind, tired of the wild thoughts that seemed to pass relentlessly through it.

"So, um, what do you do at night if you can't sleep? Is it always flying, or other things too? Because not many people are up at this hour, so it must get pretty lonely."

He felt himself starting to ramble and stopped at that point. Sure, Topher had had issues sleeping too, but he never wandered around the school because of them. Sometimes he took pills like muggles do, and others he would just lay in bed for hours on end, staring up at the ceiling, begging sleep to tempt him.

"Well, right now I'm watching you."

This made her blush slightly, What does he mean by that?.. she wondered to herself.

"Self reflection? ..Funny you say that, Thats why I like to fly my broom at night aswell, its nice and calm enough for me to be alone with some of my deepest thoughts." She confessed.

Slightly taken back by how open she was being with him as well. But at the same time she enjoyed it. And after having heard his next words, she could not help but agree with him, it did get really lonely at the best of times, even if she did enjoy being alone with her deep thoughts sometimes.

"Me? well.. um.. no not always flying.. sometimes I just go and sit down on the grounds, at the lakes edge."

Sometimes wondering what it would be like if the sea ceater below just snapped her up and ate her she added mentally.

"Yeah.. " She agreed with him about the lonelyness. Her hand, almost as if on its own, going to her neck, she rubbed the back of her neck a bit, as if slightly nervous or shy about the truth. "It can-- or it does get lonely. I mean.. well, can I let you in on a small secret?"

She asked him, kind of feeling just cautious about telling him things about her. After all she often felt like he wanted nothing to do with her and really didn't even like her much. This was like his get away chance, just in case he didn't feel like listening to her tell him of her lonelyness.

Waiting for an answer. Her eyes, could not help but travel from his eyes over his complextion, his hair, then down his neck and over his torso and body. Once finally giving him the full down and up, she blushed. Right out blushed. Omg you idiot, you just let him see you check him out!? what the hell are you one? drugs!? hes gonna think you like him or something... ...maybe we do?..shit, okay shut up before he can tell your getting butterflies.
